2601 Adams Street was for many years the home of Dr. Edmond F. and Rachel B. Noel. Dr. Noel was the first African American to be granted privileges as a physician in Denver. Also active in the community, he was a member of the Owl Club and the NAACP. Mrs. Noel was the first Black member elected to the Denver school board, and a key figure in efforts to desegregate the city’s public schools. In 1968 she introduced a resolution – now known as the Noel Resolution – that called for “a comprehensive plan for the integration of the Denver Public Schools.” She was later appointed to the CU Board of Regents and was a faculty member at Metropolitan State College. The Noels built this home in 1957 and lived here for decades.

26th Ave | Struggle Hill

Struggle Hill -- anchored by 26th Avenue through the Skyland neighborhood -- is a story of oppression, liberation and dreams accomplished. Denver's communities of color worked hard to climb Struggle Hill and their achievements and contributions should be honored and celebrated.

We aim to do just that.
